A BBC Radio Foyle journalist has gone on trial at Derry Crown Court today accused of raping a woman in her bedroom.
The 30-year-old, of Northland Road in the city, denies three charges on the indictment before a jury.
The offences were allegedly committed over two and a half years ago against a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons to protect her identity.
The charges read:
(Count 1): that the Defendant on the 11th day of May 2014 in the County Court Division of Derry, intentionally touched Woman A, the circumstances being that the touching was sexual, that she did not consent to the touching and he did not reasonably believe that she so consented contrary to Article 7(1) of the Sexual Offences (Northern Ireland) Order 2008
(Count 2): that the defendant on the 11th day of May 2014 in the County Court Division of Derry, intentionally digitally penetrated sexually Woman A, the circumstances being that the penetration was sexual, that she did not consent to the penetration and he did not reasonably believe that she so consented contrary to Article 6(1) of the Sexual Offences (Northern Ireland) Order 2008
(Count 3): that the defendant on the 11th day of May 2014 in the County Court Division of Derry, intentionally penetrated Woman A with your penis who did not consent to the penetration and he did not reasonably believe that she so consented contrary to Article 5(1) of the Sexual Offences (Northern Ireland) Order 2008.
The trial is expected to last until Friday of this week.
