DETECTIVES have charged a man over an armed robbery on a shop in Derry in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Police say a 28-year-old man will appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court for a first remand hearing on a charge of robbery.
He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following the armed robbery of a shop on Westland Street.
The PSNI say officers received a report that at around 1.45 am a masked male, armed with a knife and a hammer, entered the shop and threatened counter staff.
The suspect demanded money from the till before making off with a sum of cash.
The suspect was arrested a short time later.
He was taken to Strand Road police station for processing and questioning.
As a result, he has now been charged with robbery.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “I would like to thank the local community for their help and assistance in our investigation to date.
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken with police or anyone with any information that could assist with the investigation to contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime in Strand Road on 101 quoting reference number 115 of 19/11/16.
“Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
