woman who tragically died in a three vehicle crash on the Glenshane Pass yesterday has been been named as Loreto Douglas.
The 64-year-old, from Derry, was airlifted from the scene of the crash to Altnagelvin Hospital by a police helicopter.
But despite the valiant efforts of doctors and nurses, they were unable to save her life due to the severity of her injuries.
Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened outside Dungiven, to contact them.
Foyle SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan has urged drivers to take extra care on the roads as winter bites.
“It’s a very dangerous road at the best of times, but in icy conditions it becomes more dangerous,” he said.
“My thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends in the aftermath of this tragedy.”
TUV councillor Boyd Douglas was one of many who found himself diverted.
“It’s very tragic when anyone dies in an accident. Whoever it is, our thoughts are with the family,” he said.
PSNI Inspector Ian Armour has appealed for anyone who was travelling on the Glenshane Pass yesterday morning who witnessed the collision to contact police in Limavady on the non emergency number 101.
