POLICE have revealed how officers had to intervene last night in Derry to save a woman from a man armed with a shovel.
The PSNI revealed on its Foyle Facebook page how members of the Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team were driving in one of the estates when they were “flagged down” by a taxi driver.
“He told us he had just dropped a couple off round the corner and was worried that there would be a domestic incident.
“We rushed round the corner in time to see a distressed woman leave the house and flag us down.
“Her partner had verbally abused her and then come at her with a shovel. We have obviously arrested him.
“Domestic Abuse is a real issue in our communities and I dread to think what may have happened if we had not been passing that taxi at that exact time.
“Just like that taxi driver we all need to make sure we are looking out for our friends and neighbours.”
Constable Ed Murphy of Ballyarnett Neghbourhood Team has expressed his thanks to the taxi driver for his assistance.
He asked the taxi drive to private message him at ‘PSNI Foyle’ on Facebook or ring Strandtown Station on the 101 number.
“We didn’t have time to get your details and would be keen to get background info as to what exactly happened in the car,” said Constable Murphy.
