Funeral service this morning for former nun Loreto Douglas who died in three vehicle crash on Glenshane Pass last week

THE funeral is taking place this morning for the Derry woman who died after a three-vehicle collision on the Glenshane Pass last week.

Loreto Douglas (64) had been travelling to a funeral on Wednesday morning last when the collision, involving two vans and a car, occurred near the Ponderosa Bar on the main Derry to Belfast road.

She was airlifted to hospital but later died from her injuries.

Ms Douglas will be buried from the church where she once served as a nun.

Her remains will be taken from her home at 9.30 am for 10 Requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Thornhill.

She will be laid to rest afterwards in Ardmore cemetery.

It is understood Ms Douglas’s car was initially involved in a minor crash a van last Wednesday before a second collision took place involving a third vehicle.

Four other people were taken to hospital, one of whom suffered serious leg injuries.

A former nun with the Sisters of Mercy Order, Ms Douglas lived at Belvoir Park in the Culmore area.
