SINN Fein councillor Christopher Jackson has welcomed the announcement from Communities Minister Paul Givan that he would provide £160,223 of funding to support phase four of the Waterside Greenway project.
He said: “Sinn Féin have campaigned for the development of greenways for a number of years.
“We believe they have huge potential in attracting activity tourist markets as well as being an invaluable health and wellbeing resource for local communities.
“This comes following the recent exciting news that a new £15Million pound Greenways project is to take place on two of the main arterial routes between Derry and Donegal.”
The project will open up public access into the Gransha Estate and will connect directly with the end of the Phase three works close to the Foyle Bridge.
The works include the creation of a 0.5 km pedestrian and cycle path and the provision of street lighting and litter bins.
Construction works are expected to commence in January 2017 and complete by June 2017.
