POLICE are urging the rural community across Derry to be vigilant against roaming gangs of thieves on the look out to steal expensive farm machinery.
Recently, a £60,000 tractor, which was stolen in the west, was found across the border by Gardai in Sligo.
Police in Limavady say that overnight officers were on patrol in rural areas of the district watching out for any suspicious activity.
“We were conducting anti burglary patrols and looking out for farm machinery being moved,” said a police spokesperson.
“It would be unusual for farm machinery being moved in the early hours of the morning at this time of year.
“So if you spot anything out of the ordinary report it to us on 101 and we’ll go check it out.”
