YEAR 13 A-Level Business Studies students from Lisneal College will be joining the next Walled City Market on Saturday 3rd December with their company ‘MOMENT’.
The students will profile their business and products which aim to raise awareness of mental health issues at one of the stalls in Guildhall Square.
The business group was formed as part of Young Enterprise’s ‘Company Programme’ which promotes enterprise within schools, youth centres and other organisations throughout Northern Ireland.
The Lisneal students will then compete with other companies in the North West region and if successful, they will go on to compete at national level with companies throughout the United Kingdom.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock said she was delighted the students had chosen the Walled City Market to showcase their new product:
“Well done to all the students involved in this business venture. Choosing to set up a business that helps to raise awareness of mental health issues is a very good idea and I’d be fully supportive of the students.
“The Walled City Market is a perfect platform to launch this business as it draws in people from near and far every month. This month will be a bit extra special being so close to Christmas so I expect there will be lots of people looking to buy gifts. With the added opportunity to personalise these gifts and support awareness of mental health issues, the products MOMENT are presenting will make a lovely gift to someone.’
Speaking about the programme, Lewis Scott, a student from Lisneal College and Sales Director of MOMENT explains, ‘With mental health issues now affecting one in five people, we were keen to set up ‘MOMENT’ to raise awareness of these issues and look at ways of tackling problems such as stress, anxiety and feelings of negativity.
‘We have designed three unique products – therapeutic dough, positivity focused gift ware and bullet journals. All our products are designed to help people manage their feelings and emotions through positive reinforcement.
‘The team are really excited to be taking part in the Walled City Market, as this is our first big selling opportunity. Derry City and Strabane District Council has been very supportive and we cannot wait to showcase our products and what we do. We are also looking forward to trading alongside other local businesses and get first-hand experience of selling in a market environment.’
As an added touch the ‘Moment’ products can be personalised to make the gifts unique, making them the perfect Christmas gift and something of sentimental value. Throughout the research stage of the project the students teamed up with a professor in Mental Health Studies who recommended the use of colour and therapeutic scents.
The handmade therapeutic dough includes different essential oils, renowned for their soothing properties specifically for people who suffer from anger, anxiety and stress.
The journals are designed to give busy people somewhere to offload their problems or thoughts, promoting mindfulness and the positivity focused giftware is aimed to help remind us to stay positive.
The next Walled City Market takes place on Saturday 3rd December in the Guildhall Square.
Customers can look forward to the very best of artisan traders, with a wide selection of speciality foods ranging from street food, homemade jams, breads and cakes and handmade crafted products.
