POLICE say officers have taken another ‘death driver’ off the streets of Derry.
The juvenile was detained on Friday night by officers on patrol in the Northern Estates.
He appeared at Derry courthouse on Saturday morning for a number of motoring offences.
The teenager was remanded in custody to appear the Derry youth court at a future date.
Police in Derry say they growing increasingly concerned that parents are allowing people to drive around the city in uninsured ‘runaround’ cars.
In a posting on its Facebook page, a PSNI officer said:
“Ok . . . bit of a rant coming up 😠
“So we 👮🏻know that residents of the Northern Estates have have been angry and fed up by the ‘death driving’ going on in the area.
“It has caused people to keep off the roads and keep their young kids inside.
“Happily Police arrested a male juvenile on Friday night for numerous Road Traffic Offences relating to these incidents.
“He was charged to Court and was remanded in Custody.
“However, the fact we have ‘children’ recklessly endangering lives on our roads is appalling.
“No this is NOT a bit of fun, it’s NOT ‘a good hobby for the wee man’, we DON’T need to ‘chill out about it’.
“Whoever is allowing these kids to bomb around in these cars, quads and bikes needs to stop and think.
“It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or worse.
“Rant over.”
