TRADERS have been warned to be on their guard against fake notes.
It follows the detection a counterfeit £10 Ulster Bank note which was detected by hawk-eyed staff in recent days at a shop in Strabane.
PSNI Foyle say: “They say money doesn’t grow on trees yet some people like to think it does!!
“This is a note (pictured above) which was passed to businesses in Strabane in past couple of days.
“On initial inspection it appears to be a genuine note.
“Thankfully staff were observant and by using an ultra violet pen, discovered it was in fact a counterfeit £10 note made from paper.
“Two males were arrested very shortly after. The matter is still being investigated.
“Please do not let your business fall victim to this over the Christmas period.
“Staff will be busy but encourage them to take their time when handling notes and if in doubt get it checked out.
“Use a UV pen and more importantly, feel the note.
“Nine times out of ten it is the feel and the smell of a note that gives it away as being counterfeit.”
