SINN Féin chief Martin McGuinness says the British government is not serious about dealing with the legacy of the past.
Mr McGuinness was speaking after meeting British Secretary of State James Brokenshire.
The Foyle MLA said: “My party has met the British government on at least a dozen occasions this year and called on them to implement the legacy mechanisms agreed at Stormont House.
“I don’t believe the British government is serious about dealing with the legacy of the past.
!They are currently holding up legacy inquests, denying justice to victims and their families in the process.
“The British government is clearly not prepared to face up to the real issues being raised by families whose loved ones were murdered by the state and its agencies.
“The Lord Chief Justice has asked for the funds for legacy inquests to be released immediately and the British government has a responsibility to do that.
“The Irish government must hold the British government to account on its failure to implement its agreements on legacy,” added the deputy first minister.
