A FORMER SDLP MLA has launched a broadside against the powersharing government of Sinn Fein and the DUP.
John Dallat says the two parties are “presiding over a train wreck” of a government at Stormont branding their leadership as “arrogant and incompetent”.
The DUP are fire fighting over the Renewal Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme which stands to cost the public purse around £400 million over the next 20 years.
Former DUP Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell has revealed he tried to stop the scheme last year but was overruled by Arlene Foster.
He says he has now decided to come clean over the scandal, adding “I have to tell the truth”.
Bell, who got dumped as a minister by Arlene Foster, will speak publicly tonight on theStephen Nolan show about the ‘cash-for-ash’ scandal.
The interview will be broadcast on BBC 1 NI at 10.40 pm.
Speaking ahead of the programme, Mr Dallat said: “My heart goes out to John Hume, Seamus Mallon, Brid Rogers and others who worked their butts off to bring about the Good Friday Agreement.
“It must be heart-rendering for them as it is for me to find the whole concept of power-sharing in tatters thanks to the arrogance and incompetence of the DUP and SF who are now presiding over a train wreck which was coming down the line since the day and hour they took control.”
The SDLP has tabled a motion of no confidence in Foster who will face MLAs on Monday at a specially recalled sitting of the Assembly.
The Alliance Party, the Ulster Unionists and the Green Party along with others have agreed to sign the motion.
However, Sinn Fein has yet to give an indication on whether it will sign it or not.
The motion needs 30 signatures for it to pass.
But the DUP could launch a ‘petition of concern’ to block it.
SDLP leader Colum Eastwood wants the First Minister to step aside for six months for an investigation into the RHI scheme is carried out.
