HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend the funeral this morning of well known Derry republican Dale Moore.
Mr Moore died on Sunday aged 52 following an illness.
Mr Moore was a press officer for the party in Derry and also worked at the party’s offices at Stormont.
He was also a feature writer for An Phoblacht.
Mr Moore underwent a lung transplant nine years ago after he was diagnosed with a lung condition in 1999.
Mr Moore’s funeral will leave his home at Whitehouse Park this morning at 9.15 am for 10 am Requiem Mass in St. Columba’s Church, Long Tower.
Following his funeral, he will be laid to rest in the City Cemetery.
After news of his death was released, Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martin McGuinness laid the tributes to Mr Moore.
Mr McGuinness tweeted: “Seeing Dale hooked up to oxygen at a desk in Stormont or @DerrySinnFein office was a moving experience.A courageous & gentle soul. RIP.”
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson tweeted: “No words – just a very sore heart – Derry mourning a dedicated Republican & genuine friend – This is so sore – we will miss you Comrade Dale”.
Sinn Fein Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard also paid his own personal tribute.
“Thoughts with Dale Moore’s family… We will all remember him with great fondness & pride; a selflessly devoted comrade to all of us,” he tweeted.
