A PRIEST has spoken of a Derry family’s devastation at the news their daughter was killed in a two vehicle crash last night in Co Donegal.

Fr Michael Canny spent spent time with comforting and praying with the woman’s family during the night.

He said it was the “saddest situation”.’

And Fr Canny also spoke of the moment the bombshell news arrived on their doorstep late on Thursday night.

“There was a knock on the door from a female police officer, it was the worst imaginable news,” he said.

“We’ve heard of so many situations this year, on both sides of the border, but it is certainly something that is magnified at this time of the year.”

The R238 Buncrana to Derry road will remain closed for most of Friday.

A man in his 20s was also injured in the crash and was taken to a hospital in Letterkenny.

But his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
