THE religious order which lost a Derry nun in an earthquake tragedy earlier this year has posted a poignant video of her last Christmas before she was cruelly taken from them.
The Home of the Mother Order was left stunned when Sister Clare Crockett was tragically killed in April when an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck Ecuador.
The 33-year-old was trying to shepherd children out of a school where she worked at Playa Prieta when the staircase collapsed under a large tremor.
The Home of the Mother Order say: “We share these images of Sr. Clare Crockett playing the guitar during Christmas Eve dinner 2015: her last Christimas here on earth.
“We hope that her joy may reach you all and encourage you to welcome the birth of Baby Jesus with that same enthusiasm.
In a video she made, Sr Crockett revealed who she had never thought of becoming a nun.
“I wanted to be an actress – not just any actress, but a famous actress. I not only wanted to be famous in Ireland but in the whole world. My goal was to make it to Hollywood,” she said.
When she was 17, she said alcohol “began to be a serious problem for me – my weekends consisted of getting drunk with my friends”.
However, after going on a retreat with friends in the mistaken belief it was a holiday, she said she felt God’s call and a year later entered the convent before devoting herself to helping vulnerable people in the world.
All or Nothing: Sister Clare Crockett will be broadcast next year.
