A BUS driver has been hailed a hero after he talked a distressed man from a bridge in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The driver for TranslinkNI stopped the vehicle and approached the man, ensuring he was safe before getting back to work.
One passenger, Joseph Carlin tweeted about the incident and contacted directly Translink to tell the company their driver had saved a life.
Mr Carlin said: “You should know your driver just saved a life by talking man off bridge in Strabane. Hero.”
Mr Carlin explain that the the driver was shaken as he got back on the coach but continued on his way and delivered his passengers to Dublin.
Mr Carlin said: “The whole bus applauded him after he apologised to us for holding us up.
“No one cared. We are in safe hands. The man deserves award.”
The coach was travelling from Derry to Dublin on Saturday morning when the driver spotted a man standing on a bridge at Strabane.
He told his passengers he felt unable to simply drive past the distressed man and apologised for delaying their journey as he talk him to safety.
A spokesperson for Translink responded to Mr Carlin’s posts and said: “Oh Joseph, that is a great thing to hear 1st thing!”
