SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has urged parents and all those who work with children and young people to educate them about their online rights and responsibilities.
The party’s spokesperson for children and young people was speaking after a report by the Children’s Commissioner for England found the internet was not designed for children.
Cllr Logue said: “Children and young people regularly interact with their friends via the internet and share photos and information through social media.
“What they don’t realize is that they could be at risk of giving away personal information and signing up to terms and conditions they do not fully understand.
“I would encourage parents and all of those who work with children and young people to educate them fully about their online rights and responsibilities,” she added.
