THE mother of young Billy Caldwell who is battling life threatening epilepsy has asked for prayers for her son after he suffered a “devastating set back” in Los Angeles.
The 11-year-old Castkderg lad is currently in the United States awaiting potentially life saving surgery.
But his mum says that at the weekend he took a turn for the worse.
Asking for people to pray for her son, who is in a critical condition in the Children’s Hospital in LA, Charlotte said she was in tears at her son’s bedside.
Posting on the Keep Billy Alive page set up to fundraise for the operation and treatment, she said: “On Saturday Billy was admitted to Children’s Hospital here in L.A suffering from Status Epilipsy.
“He is in a critical condition due to life threatening breakthrough of extreme seizures. This is undoubtedly a very unexpected and frightening time for us.
“Billy is presently sedated to try and break the cycle of seizure activity. Eyes filled with tears I am sitting beside Billy’s Hospital bed writing this post.
“Finding it difficult to find the words as this is incomprehensible.
“The reality is I am hurting so very badly now and trying to find the words to pray? One moment I’m just sitting in silence hoping, God hears my heart break and in the next moment tears just keep coming.
“Billy is undoubtedly in a crisis situation.”
In the emotional post, Charlotte describes how she’s finding it difficult to breathe as she’s so worried about her son.
She continued: “My heart is breaking for Billy. The weight of this situation is so heavy I am finding it difficult to breathe.
“My words choke out, sometimes can’t speak at all. Speaking thoughts just seems to require energy that I just haven’t got right now. So I sit in silence, hoping god hears my heart break.
“Dear God, my strength is leaving me, I am so very anxious. The situation doesn’t make sense.
“Billy is so innocent and vulnerable. I don’t understand why this is happening.
“God, help me to trust you with Billy’s life…with every aspect of this situation.”
Charlotte is asking everyone to pray and light candles for Billy at this time.
The family recently set up a petition and has organised a seminar at Stormont on January 30 in the Long Gallery to highlight Billy’s case and others like him in Northern Ireland who desperately need cannabis oil treatment to be legalised in Northern Ireland.
