THE PSNI have confirmed that a pipe exploded outside a house in Derry last night.
The device went off in the garden of a house at Erne Gardens in the Irish Street area of the city around 10.20 pm last night.
The remnants of the device were examined by British Army Technical Officers ATO who have confirmed it was a viable pipe bomb type device.
It has since been removed for further examination.
Two men and a woman were in the house at the time cheated injury in the incident.
However, they were left badly shaken over the explosion.
A large number of homes were evacuated during the alert.
Around 40 people who were forced to flee their homes have now been allowed back into their properties.

Detectives are appealing for information following the incident.
Detective Inspector Conor McStravick has appealed to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area or anyone who has information about this incident to contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1235 25/01/17.
Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The people evacuated have now been allowed back to their homes.
