THE Mother of little Billy Caldwell has thanked the public for their prayers and messages after he suffered a “devastating setback” in the USA last week.
The 11-year-old from is battling life threatening epilepsy suffered one of his ‘worst seizures yet’ and was in a critical condition in hospital in Los Angeles
But today his mum Charlotte has confirmed that the Castlederg youngster is now out of the coma and is doing well.
She said: “Billy had an unbelievable breakthrough of life threatening seizures, which followed by a Status Seizure leaving him in a sedated coma in Hospital here in L.A.
“It has being undoubtedly Billy’s toughest fight with Mr. Seizure yet. I have experienced a varied array of emotions, conflicting emotions have pulled at my heart in so many different directions.
“I have so much missed his cheeky smile, sparkling eyes looking up at me, his wee boisterous ways and his usual bounding of energy keeping me on my toes constantly.
“I hate, hate Epilepsy, the brutal condition that has caused my wee man to fight for his life again.”
Charlotte continued: “It’s that horrible heart wrenching frustration, even though the medical team here in L.A. are world ranking specialists, I can pray my heart out for his healing, but his wee body and soul must fight it on his own. I would not wish this on any parent.
“And as much as I hate sitting watching helplessly, praying, my Mammies heart can’t help but be glad that I am actually here to do it.
“And then my conflicted mammy’s heart, that feels sympathy, hope, sadness, exhaustion and love couldn’t help but delight in that wee innocent smile when Billy opened his eyes for the first time in days.”
Charlotte said she wanted to thank everyone who sent messages of support and offered prayers for Billy’s wellbeing.
She said: “I want each and everyone of you to know how truly thankful I am for the hundreds of beautiful messages, prayers and all the candles lit for Billy all over the world.
“From the bottom of my heart indebted to you all forever more. Feeling so much love and support from you all here in L.A. Thank you for staying by our side, we could not do this without you.
“Folks if you do one thing for me this evening, do this. Take your munchkins, no matter how big or small, no matter how young or old into your arms and give them the biggest, hug/squeeze ever.
“For they are but a beautiful gift only lent to us for a while by the Lord.
“Count your blessings, tell them every day you love them with all your heart and thank God that he gave you the honour to be their Mammy/daddy.”
Billy still has a huge fight ahead of him with the costs of his treatment and medical bills mounting.
The family have set up a fundraising page to help fund Billy’s treatment.
