SINN Féin’s new leader in the Stormont Assembly Michelle O’Neill has said she will make clear the negative consequences of Brexit when she meets the British Prime Minister in Cardiff today.
Theresa May will meet leaders of the devolved administrations, including Michelle O’Neill and Arlene Foster, before she travels to Dublin to meet Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
At that Cardiiff gathering, Theresa May will discuss the UK’s exit from the European Union with leaders of the devolved administrations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Ms O’Neill will be meeting Ms May for the first time since she succeeded Martin McGuinness as Sinn Féin’s leader in Stormont and she says she will make clear her views about Brexit.
She believes talk about a hard Brexit or a soft Brexit is nonsense because there is no such thing as a soft Brexit.
In her view it is going to lead to border controls, customs issues, challenges for trade and traditional food patterns across the island.
She also said it will lead to interruptions in trade with other European countries and it is going to undermine the Good Friday Agreement.
After the Cardiff discussions, Theresa May will travel to Dublin for talks with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
