A TOTAL of 27 candidates are contesting the constituencies of Foyle and East Derry for the Assembly election.
Voters go to the polls on Thursday, March 2.
The Assembly has now been reduced from 108 seats to 90 – one less seat across the 18 constituencies in the North.
At last May’s elections the SDLP took two seats in Foyle as did Sinn Fein who parachuted Martin McGuinness in the hoping of winning a third.
But the plan backfired, with Maeve McLaughlin losing her seat to McGuinness and Eamonn McCann for the People Before Profit Party took the fifth seat.
The DUP’s Gary Middleton took the sixth seat.
With one less seat in Foyle, either the SDLP or Sinn Fein could be the losers but a lot will depend on voter apathy.
