POLICE have slammed as “total madness” the speeds young drivers were detected travelling at last night in Co Derry.
One was caught driving at 105 mph while an restricted ‘R’ driver was detected travelling at 94 mph – putting both themselves and other road users at danger of being seriously or fatally injured
Said Sgt Ennis: “Started off with some lazer speed checks on top of the Limavady to Coleraine mountain road, same place we had the dash board camera incident last week!!
“First car I checked was a 20 year old, out of his R plates 6 months, at 105 MPH – overtaking another car!!
“Half an hour later I detected an ‘R’ driver at 94MPH (over twice the speed he should have been doing).
“Total madness!!
“Both young males, both at very high risk of killing themselves and others.
“Both will be reported to the PPS. SPEED KILLS!
“Lastly I took a run over towards Coleraine and on the way arrested a male with Cocaine, Cannabis and Diazepam – he was covering all bases with that lot.
“Again I ask you to report any suspicious activity related to drug dealing to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Thank you to all who have given us valuable information in the last few weeks, we are working on it, please keep the information coming,” added Sgt Ennis
