POLICE have reopened part of Derry city centre which had been sealed off this morning for a detailed forensic examination.
Earlier, PSNI Foyle said that the “scene is currently being held in the Chamberlain St area due to a serious assault this morning”.
Police have thanked the public for their patience as scene investigators comb the area for clues to the attacker or attackers.
Following the completion of CSI examination, Chamberlain Street has now reopened.
The PSNI have not released any further details about the attack.
Detectives from the Reactive and Organised Crime Branch based at Strand Road station are currently investigating the attack.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or has any information about those behind the ‘serious assault’ is asked to ring detectives on the 101 non-emergency number.
