DETECTIVES are hunting a masked gunman who shot a man and woman in their home last night.
The masked man entered the house at James Street in Coleraine around 7.15 pm on Sunday evening, February 19, and shot the man in the leg and the woman in the foot.
Police said the injuries were not life threatening.
Inspector Paul Patton appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives on the 101 non emergency number.
UUP Easter Londonderry candidate William McCandless condemned the attack.
“James Street is a quiet street and the local community is absolutely shocked to learn of this incident,” he said.
“There is simply no excuse for bringing guns onto the streets and using them against anyone. This is exactly the type of criminality that the new Assembly must help take a stand to eradicate.
Alliance East Londonderry candidate Chris McCaw has described the shooting as shocking.
“There can be no excuse or justification for this act of violence and I condemn it without reservation,” he said.
“I send my best wishes to the man and woman and hope they have a speedy recovery.”
Anyone with information about this attack should report it to the police or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
