A MAN is due in court today on an animal cruelty charge.
Michael Stephen Conwell, of Slievebuoy Park, Claudy, is contesting the single charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a number of dogs.
The charge reads that the:
“Defendant on an unknown date in the County Court Division of Derry, by reason of an act or failure to act by you caused unnecessary suffering to three dogs and you knew or ought reasonably to have known that the said act or failure to act would have that effect or was likely to do so, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.”
The charge has been brought by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The council has an application before the court for the “destruction of a dog(s).”
