SINN Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has called on parents to ensure children do not become involved in anti-community activity in Ballymagroarty.
Councillor McGinley said: “Over the past couple of weeks a number of bins have been stolen and burned in Ballymagroarty whilst garden fencing has also been damaged in the same area.
“The most serious disturbances took place last weekend with the PSNI intervening and arresting at least one person.
“It is apparent that those responsible could be as young as thirteen or fourteen and there is a real onus on parents to ensure that their children are not involved in behaviour which is causing residents in the area serious concern.
“There is no excuse for these actions which only cause worry and inconvenience for the local community.
“I have been in contact with the Housing Executive in relation to repairs which are required for residents’ fencing and I am presently working to have bins replaced as quickly as possible.”
