FIRE crews have dealt with a blaze at a textiles recycling centre in Co Derry.
It’s understood the fire at William Clarke and Sons linen mill in Maghera – Ireland’s oldest linen started at around 1.40 pm yesterday afternoon, Sunday, February 26.
The two storey building was well alight and the roof had collapsed when crews arrived at the scene.
No staff were working inside at the time.
There was a danger of the fire spreading to nearby properties.
But fire chiefs brought in five fire appliances, an aerial appliance and water tanker – which pumped water from an underground river – to help bring the blaze under control.
Some crews remain at the scene last night as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
An investigation has now been launched into how the fire started and whether it was accidental or deliberate.
