SINN Fein Foyle MLA Elisha McCallion has accused British Chancellor of the Exchequer of ducking the key issue of Brexit in his Spring budget statement this week.
The former Mayor of Derry said: “The British Chancellor has made it clear that he will continue to impose Tory austerity.
“We face a cut in real terms to budgets in the north when our public services, particularly the health service, are already under severe strain.
“Philip Hammond also failed to comment on his plans to set tens of billions aside to mitigate the impact of Brexit.
“Brexit will be an economic catastrophe, it is bad for business, bad for jobs, bad for our agri-food industry.
“Brexit is damaging to the economic interests of the people of the north and the people of this island as a whole.
“Sinn Féin will continue to work to ensure the democratic decision of the majority of people in the north is recognised through designated special status,” added Mrs McCallion.
