HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend a candle lit vigil which is being held in Dungiven this evening, March 21, following the death of Martin McGuinness.

The 66-year-old passed away in the early hours of this morning at Altnagelvin Hospital with his wife Bernie and his children at his bedside.

The former Deputy First Minister had been ill for only a few months.

To mark his passing, East Derry Sinn Fein have organised the candle vigil at The Grove in Upper Main Street at 8 pm.

The news of the vigil was announced on East Derry Sinn Fein’s Facebook page.

The post read: “There will be a candlelit vigil at 8pm tonight at the grove to mark the passing of our leader and comrade Martin McGuinness.

“Our hearts are sore today.

“Martin was a republican hero and friend to us all.

“Come along to the grove and send your condolences to Bernie and the rest of Martin’s family.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
