THE 2016 winners of Ulster in Bloom have been announced and Derry has been voted as the best city in bloom.
This was the 38 year of the annual horticultural competition which celebrates North of Ireland’s top gardening talent and their beautiful plant and floral displays.
The Best Station title was won by Foyle Street Bus Station.
And there was also a special award for Derry City’s Garden of Reflection.
The 2016 Award winners were:
Derry – Best City
Ballymena – Best Large Town
Coleraine – Best Town
Ahoghill – Best Small Town
Cullybackey – Best Large Village
Castlecaufield – Best Village
Charlestown – Best Small Village
The ‘Most Improved’ title went to Cullybackey and the ‘Roses in Towns’ award winner was Lisburn.
Special Award winners included: Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Mary Peter’s Track (Belfast City Council) in recognition of efforts to support biodiversity along with Newtownards Memorial Garden, and the Old George Bar & Restaurant in Rathfriland for their outstanding plant/floral presentations.
Bill Pollock from ‘Brighter Whitehead’ was the winner of the Ulsterbus Tours Community Champion Award in recognition of the lasting and positive difference he has made to his local area by embracing the ‘Ulster in Bloom’ ethos.
The Best Community Rail Halt Award went to Whitehead Train Station.
