A MAN has been remanded in custody for drug offences and illegal uninsured car has been taken off the road by a specialist police team targeting criminals following a tip off from the public.
The PSNI said the arrest and seizure of the Ford Focus car in Derry was made by its specialist Reducing Offending Unit (ROU) which deals with ‘Priority Prolific Offenders’.
The job of the ROU is to reduce their rate of re-offending through a combination of “robust policing methods and partnership working”.
The man faced Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning and remanded to Maghaberry prison.
PSNI Foyle said: ‘Catch & Control’ officers from Strand Road’s ROU reacted immediately to information received from concerned members of the public and detected this uninsured vehicle being driven illegally in a built-up residential area during school finishing time.
“The vehicle was stopped, seized and a substantial quantity of Class B controlled drugs were located in the car.
“A 25 year old male was arrested and overnight-charged to court with several drug and driving related offences and was subsequently remanded in custody.
“This vehicle has been involved in criminality in your area.
“If you have any information regarding the movements of this vehicle prior to being seized by Police, please contact the Reducing Offending Unit at Strand Road Police Station or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
