SINN Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has said the public must stand up for the two Cultúrlanna in the North.
He was speaking after Foras na Gaeilge announced there will be a public consultation relating to a new scheme for Irish Language centres.
Councillor Kevin Campbell said:
“The two Cultúrlanna are of vital importance and have been for some time.
“Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and Cultúrlann Mhac Adaim Ó Fiaich have a central role in the development of the Irish language not just in Derry and Belfast, but across the north.
“Undoubtedly, there is a need to develop the Irish Language in many areas across the country; this does not mean it must be to the detriment of two projects of great success.
“If there is to be a strategic way forward, options should be explored which do not remove funding from the Cultúrlanna.
“I would ask everyone to take part in this consultation and to make their voice heard for the two Cultúrlanna.
”The consultation process will continue until the 22 June 2017.”
