THERE is sadness across the North West this morning following the news that two young men have tragically lost their lives following a single car collision in Co Donegal overnight.

The car was travelling on the  main Derry to Moville Road when the accident happened.

The struck a wall and then a tree on the Redcastle side of Quigley’s Point in Inishowen.

Three other young men in the car have been taken to hospital but their conditions are not yet known.

All five young men are understood to be from the Buncrana area.

The two young men who died are understood to be in their late teens.

Emergency services have been at the scene of the crash overnight.

The road between Quigley’s Point and Moville remains closed and diversions are in place via Moville and Carndonagh.

The accident comes just hours after the head of the Garda Traffic Corps in Donegal pleaded with people to exercise caution over the roads in the county during the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Inspector Michael Harrison had pleaded with people not to become another statistic on Donegal’s roads.

“We are pleading with people to wear their seat belts, slow down and never to drive under the influence. Our officers will be out in force and if people break the rules of the road they will eventually be caught,” he warned.
