POLICE TO THE RESCUE AFTER THIEF STEALS WHEEL FROM WOMAN’S CAR

POLICE got a Galliagh woman back on the road with the help of a car breakers following a bizarre incident of theft.

Officers from one the Local Policing Teams received a call to say not that a car had been stolen but  a WHEEL had been removed from her car.

The PSNI Foyle say: “One of the Local Policing Teams went to a call in the Galliagh area where a lady had come out of her house to get into her car only to find one of the wheels had been stolen!

“Process that: someone – during the night – turned up with a car jack and a socket set and set about methodically and cleanly removing this ladies wheel. Who does that? (if you know give us a call)

“Police couldn’t just leave her with her new modified Reliant Robin and so they called out to a local Car Breakers and explained the situation.

“They were as sympathetic as we were and so without much fuss went about sourcing a replacement wheel and refused to accept any cash.

“The lady was delighted when Police came back and attached a new wheel!

“We are used to dealing with criminals day in day out but this reminded me that actually most people are caring, friendly and generous to a fault.”

The owner of the car was delighted to get back on the road.

She posted on Facebook: “Thank you’s all again! To have stood that long in the rain and not given up on my wee car 😄 really appreciated.”
