A 5K race was held last night to help a sports mad Derry school who was paralysed after a fall from a tree.
Dylan Wade from the Brandywell has set his sights on taking part in paralympics.
The 15-year-old suffered life-changing spinal injuries after dropping 20ft in St Columb’s Park, Derry, in May 2016.
Following the accident, Dylan’s life hung by a thread as skilled surgeons battled to save his heart, which had been pierced on impact during the fall.
Dylan is now back at school where he has been sitting his GCSEs.
His PE teacher Emmett McGinty at St Joseph’s School in Creggan was so inspired by Dylan’s courage he decided to raise money to purchase a special racing wheelchair that would allow Dylan to race competitively.
So well done to everyone who took part in the St Joseph’s 5K.
