POLICE in Derry have warned officers will be out in plain clothes carrying out test purchasing at local off-licenses over the weekend.
PSNI Foyle said on its Facebook page: “We are giving everyone fair warning so please let your staff know.
“This is about keeping our young people safe by making sure that anyone under the age of 18 isn’t being sold alcohol.
“We will also be on the look out for proxy buyers – so if you think it’s right to buy vodka, cider or alcopops for anyone underage, think again.
“Feedback will be provided to off-licence management on how staff members have dealt with the test and where appropriate we will provide additional support.
“We will continue to tackle these issues throughout the summer months as part of our efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour and low-level crime in the city.”
