AN MLA has said a community in Co Derry has been left in “shock” following the death of a woman in a house fire in the early hours of this morning.
The woman, aged in her 50s, died at the property at Grange Park in Limavady just before 6 30 am this morning.
An investigation is underway to determine how the fire started.
Sinn Fein MLA Caoimhe Archibald expressed her sympathies.
“The whole community is shocked by this tragic incident,” she said.
“This is a deeply tragic event and my thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the woman.
“I wish to pay tribute to the emergency services who attended the scene for their professionalism and their efforts.”
A Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call from the PSNI at 6.28am this morning to a house fire at Grange Park, Limavady.
“Tragically, a lady has died and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the lady who has died.
“The fire was out on arrival of fire crews.
“Three fire appliances from Limavady, Crescent Link and Dungiven Fire Stations attended the incident.
“A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the house and alerted the emergency services.
“A smoke alarm was also sounding from the property.”
