FOOD and craft lovers are reminded that the next Walled City Market is taking place this weekend at Guildhall Square and among the many local craft producers participating are King’s Crafts and Ohh Sew Pretty.
The two companies share a stall and will be showcasing their ware at the Walled City Market in Guildhall Square next Saturday 05 August from 11am to 5pm.
The Walled City Market is a monthly market organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council on the first Saturday of every month promoting local food and craft producers.
Nicola King of King’s Crafts thinks the Walled City Market is an ideal location for her to promote her products and get her company’s name out to the public.
The married mum of four, first started making wooden products around nine years ago as a hobby and before long she decided to develop it into a business.
“All my products are hand cut, painted and designed to the customer’s specific requirements providing a unique personalised gift that is not in the high street.
“Being part of the Walled City Market provides me with the opportunity to promote my products as well as meet new customers and liaise with other traders. It’s great to see returning customers coming back to the stall to buy more products.”
Showcasing her produce alongside King’s Crafts is Karen Thomas who operates Ohh Sew Pretty, creating handmade items for around the house including tea cosys and cushions.
Karen is really enjoying being part of the Walled City Market and thinks it’s a great way of getting her produce out into the open market.
“I like the atmosphere of the market and the way it gets me out from behind a sewing machine to meeting new people, talking to the other traders and chatting with my customers.
“I learn a lot from the other traders and everyone is very friendly and helpful to one another,” she commented.
Already she is seeing the benefits of being part of the Market.
“It has widened my customer base and really helped build my confidence and made me more comfortable interacting with the public.”
Both ladies are hoping the Market will provide them with new opportunities for their businesses.
Nicola at King’s Crafts says: “I hope to keep expanding the business and developing new ideas and hopefully take part in more similar events.”
While Karen says she is really enjoying what she is doing and is keen to continue participating in the Walled City Market.
“This is a great showcase opportunity for Ohh Sew Pretty and I am really hopeful that my taking part in the Market will allow me to continue enjoying what I do and allow me to develop the business further.”
To add to the occasion, Echo Echo will be performing a dance workshop from 12.30 to 1.30 pm and there will be children’s characters in Guildhall Square from 2 to 4 pm.
In addition to this St. John’s Ambulance will be doing CPR demonstrations and promoting the excellent work that they do.
Encouraging the public to come along, Market Development Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council Nicolle Walters says the Walled City Market is a great way to support local businesses.
“We are delighted to provide a forum for local craft and food producers to showcase their talents and produce and build their customer base. It’s also good fun and a lovely way to spend your Saturday browsing through the stalls.”
The next Walled City Market will take place on 02 September 2017.
