DERRY City are looking to continue their good form this month with a third consecutive win this evening in their clash with Limerick.
The 5 pm kick off at Maginn Park should see the return of Ronan Curtis to the first team squad.
He was missing from last week’s North West derby game against Finn Harps after manager Kenny Sheils left him out for disciplinary reasons.
This was despite the Derry youngster being the most in-form player in the team with five goals in his last seven games.
But Kenny Shiels is determined to make sure Curtis becomes the best player at the Brandywell club and wants to make sure his footballing talent is not dragged down by heat of the moment incidents on the pitch.
“Ronan is a good lad and it’s up to me to manage him in a way in which we get the best out of him,” said Shiel who is now in the second season of managing city.
“He has been brilliant, he has been our best player this season. But it’s history now.
“It wasn’t a major indiscipline, but it was one which breaches what we do, and I have to make sure what’s best for Ronan.
“I think he will have learned from this.”
Derry have beaten Bohemians and Finn Harps in the last 10 days without conceding a goal, and Shiels is hoping his team can go on a winning run to make third place their own.
“We’ve won three of our last four games,” he said. “We’ve scored in our last nine games and we will be up for this game again.
“If we were to beat Limerick, it would put us in a great position. The young lads have shown tremendous courage in bringing us through this campaign. To be in third is a remarkable achievement and to be only nine points behind Dundalk is incredible.
“I think the boys have to be proud of themselves.
“We haven’t achieved anything yet but we want to get into that European spot and we want to win this game.”
