COULD you be Derry and Strabane’s “Face of Fashion Fest”? – then Derry City and Strabane District Council wants to hear from you.
As part of this year’s Fashion Fest, the Council is launching a ‘Face of Fashion Fest’ by encouraging people across the City and District to nominate themselves or a friend to be the Face of Fashion Fest.
Organised in partnership with the Style Academy Model Agency, Rosemary Wright Makeup Artist and Hair by Sinead, the competition is open to both males and females.
And it is a great opportunity for a local person to win a year’s contract with the Style Academy Model Agency, The Title of The Face of Fashion Fest 2017, VIP access to this year’s Fashion Fest on Saturday 14 October, and Rosemary Wright makeup and brushes.
Encouraging people from across the City and District to take part, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Maolíosa McHugh said he was delighted with this new element to the Fashion Fest.
“The Fashion Fest has been a tremendous success for Council in showcasing the local fashion industry and promoting entrepreneurship and creativity. The event has been going from strength to strength and we are delighted to add the Face of Fashion Fest to this year’s event,” he said.
To enter, the public are encouraged to visit www.derrystrabane.com/fashionfest and submit an application.
The application must include two clear photos and an application form.
Nominations will close on Friday 1st September, and the winner will be announced by Friday 22nd September 2017. (Please note that while the winner will not be expected to walk the catwalk at Fashion Fest 2017, however we anticipate that the winner appear on promotional material for Fashion Fest 2017).
Louise Breslin, Business Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council explained that a number of strict criteria are in place for the competition which include the fact that all entrants must be between 15 – 23 years old on 01st September 2017 and those under 18 must have signed parental permission.
“We require all entrants to be at least 5’7 (female) and 5’10 (male) in bare feet tall and for the overall winner to be a resident in Northern Ireland for one full year (until September 2017 after winning the title) and come from the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.”
Louise added that details of this year’s Fashion Fest programme are currently being finalised and this year there is another strong emphasis on supporting the local fashion and creative industries with every effort being made to use the Festival to provide a forum for local talent to showcase their talent and creations and grow their audience and profile.
She said: “The city and district has a strong historic connection with fashion and textiles, and a huge talent pool to draw from when it comes to design and the creative industries and the Fashion Fest provides us with a perfect forum to build on that reputation.
“The Council is committed to continue to promote events like the Fashion Fest and continue to raise the profile of our local talent.”
