SINN Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan has said local schools and local children are paying the price for Tory austerity backed by the DUP.
The Foyle MLA was speaking after it was announced that the budget for the ‘entitlement framework’ would be reduced by up to £2 million.
Karen Mullan said: “Schools are facing significant financial pressures as a direct result of Tory austerity cuts to the Block Grant.
“Since the Tories came into power we have seen over a billion pounds cut from the North’s block grant and local schools and local children are paying the price for this.
“In recent weeks Sinn Féin have engaged several times with the Department and the Education Authority to push back against cuts and protect school budgets.
“Sinn Féin will continue to fight for proper resources for school budgets,” she added.
