DERRY City and Strabane District Council, organisers of Waterside Half Marathon (WHM) have issued a final reminder to those interested in the taking part in this year’s event, that entries will close this Monday, August 14.
The event is now almost at full capacity with just a few remaining days for runners, wheelchair users and relay teams, to enter.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh said, “It is wonderful that we are already near the point of full capacity for this year’s Waterside Half Marathon.
“Throughout the city and district I see people embracing an active lifestyle.
“Ongoing developments such as the greenway projects and park regenerations throughout our council area are positive steps to getting people outdoors and taking on challenges such as the Waterside Half Marathon.
“I’d like to congratulate those who have already signed up to the challenge and encourage those thinking about it, to give it a go, you never know what you can achieve without trying.”
Jacqueline Whoriskey, Festival and Events Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, said: “The course will once again take runners across the river to the city side, showcasing our parks, greenways and bridges before finishing at St Columb’s Park.
“We are delighted to have so many entries registered at this stage. We have a good mix of first time entries and regulars to the WHM signed up so far.
“It’s great to see individuals and groups come together through the WHM to raise awareness and funds for their chosen charities.
“We will continue to take entries from runners/wheelchair users and three person team relays up until midnight on Monday 14th August or until we reach full capacity.
“As registrations are limited I’d advise competitors to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
The 36th Waterside Half Marathon returns to the city on Sunday 3rd September.
Starting in Ebrington Square, the route will once again take runners across the river to the cityside, showcasing our parks, greenways and bridges before finishing at St Columb’s Park.
