This is what our Derry Rose Sarah says about herself:
“I am 24 years old and extremely proud to have been born and raised in the stunning Oak Leaf County, not far from the breath taking views of Binevenagh mountain and the winding River Roe.
“I have recently pursued a career in the teaching profession.
I graduated from Ulster University, Coleraine in 2014 with a BA Hons Degree in Irish Language and Literature, before progressing onto St. Mary’s University College, Belfast in 2015, where I qualified as an Irish Medium Primary school teacher.
“I thoroughly enjoy working alongside young children and love helping to develop their skills and qualities as young people.
“I was therefore delighted when, in Autumn 2015 I was approached by Jimmy O’Hara Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Roe Valley, an organization set up to promote Irish traditions through music, dance and song, to be their Youth Officer and Irish Language Development Officer.
“This year, I hope to organise various fundraisers, with all proceeds going towards Chest, Heart and Stroke; a charity very close to my own heart!
“I plan to raise the Doire flag at the peak of each of the highest mountains in the four provinces of Ireland.
“I intend to raise awareness of these various health conditions whilst also encouraging other members of the community to join me on this journey.
“Here’s to the beginning of what is sure to be a fantastic and life-changing experience – DOIRE ABÚ!”
The winning Rose of Tralee will be announced on Tuesday night.
SARAH ABU!
