DETECTIVES investigating a shooting incident in Derry at the weekend are renewing their appeal for information.
Chief Inspector Paul McCracken said: “At around 11.30pm on Saturday night, 19 August, a number of shots were fired at a house in the Rossdowney Drive area, striking the front window.
“While fortunately no one was injured, what makes this incident all the more appalling is that a young, innocent child was asleep in the house at the time.
“Those responsible for this attack displayed a sheer recklessness and disregard for human life that most of us cannot fathom.
“I am aware of rumours circulating in the community that the motivation for this attack was sectarian.
“We will certainly explore this line of enquiry however I would stress that at this time there is no definitive evidence to suggest that this is the case.
“The detective team will investigate all possible lines of enquiries and follow the evidence wherever it may lead.
“I would continue to urge anyone with any information about this crime to contact police on the non-emergency number, quoting reference 1436 of 19/8/117.
“Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
