JUST as Derry is starting to dry out from the torrential rain and flooding earlier this week, the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain and flooding across the city and county today.
The warning is valid for 12 hours from 11 am, to 11 pm tonight, Friday, August 25.
Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will sweep across Derry and the North West.
Home owners, businesses and drivers are being warned to on their guard for possible localised flooding.
The Met’s Chief Forecaster says: “Rain across southern areas will turn more showery later this morning [Friday], with heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms developing through the afternoon, before dying out slowly this evening.
“Although some places will be dry, there is the potential for 10-15 mm of rain within an hour from the heavier showers and very locally 25 mm in two to three hours.”
A similar warning was issued by Met Eireann 24 hours ago for Co Donegal.
Derry, Tyrone and Donegal bore the brunnt of Tuesday’s nights torrential rain and thunderstorm.
