UPDATE NEWS…HOMES EVACUATED AFTER SUSPICIOUS DEVICE FOUND IN DERRY

A NUMBER of homes have been evacuated in the Drumahoe area of Derry.

It follows the discovery of a suspicious device in the Oeghill Park at Lettershandoney.

British Army Techncial Officers have been tasked to the scene.

The PSNI say there are no further details

But SDLP Councillor Jim McKeever said: “Police have confirmed that a suspicious device has been found.

“We do not yet know the full picture but families in this community have expressed their concern.”

He added: “The immediate priority is to ensure the safety of all in the area, therefore anyone thinking of coming in and around the area should avoid doing so, until the area is clear.”
