POLICE in Derry are questioning a man about an incident of animal cruelty and also disorderly behaviour.
It follows a report to police patrol on duty in the city centre today.
The defenceless puppy (pictured above) was rescued by police and taken to Strand Road police station.
PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team were flagged down in the City Centre today by people concerned by how a man was treating this wee pup
“We approached the fella and to say he wasn’t pleased to see us would be an understatement! He was soon arrested for Disorderly Behaviour. So far so good
“Things took a turn for the worse once the Control Room saw the CCTV playback of how this man had been treating the pup I think they found it difficult to tell us on the radio; you could feel the anger in their controlled transmissions.
“We further arrested our fella for Animal Cruelty and checked him into the Hotel Strand Road.
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the public who stopped us and please if you see anything you’re not happy with GIVE US A CALL ☎️ .
“Some people think ‘it’s none of my business’ and ignore crime.
“Thank goodness these people didn’t.
