THE North’s Environment Agency has revealed that tests have shown that the River Faughan has not been affected by pollution following the flooding of a fortnight ago.
The River Faughan supplies much of Derry’s drinking water and their were fears it may have been polluted from the nearby Mobuoy illegal dump.
An NIEA spokesperson said they were “confident nothing from the site is making its way into NI Water’s water supply”.
The spokesperson added: “This confidence is based on the evidence of the enhanced monitoring and to date the data is showing no cause for any concern.
“We have received no reports nor have we observed any erosion of the vegetation or surface cover exposing the underlying waste.”
The agency said that they will continue to monitor the situation in the weeks ahead.
