Councillor Fleming said “People are in the process of cleaning-up and rebuilding following the recent devastation caused by the floods so we need to ensure every possible assistance is provided to them.”
“Many small businesses and the farming community in the North West have been hit particularly hard by the floods.
“Sinn Féin is calling on the council to request a meeting with the interim Head of the Civil Service to lobby for an extension of the flood relief scheme of up to £1000 to local businesses and farmers. This would go some way to help those affected in clean up costs.
“We also need to look at a wider hardship fund to help people in similar situations in the future.”
He added: “Sinn Féin Leader in the North Michelle O’Neill has met with the interim Head of the Civil Service to get an update on the action plans in response to the floods.
“She stressed the need for a cross-cutting response from the various agencies over the days and weeks ahead..”
